Wildfires Continue to Burn in San Diego County
California firefighters are constantly on alert, as the threat of wildfires is present year-round. The dry fall and winter seasons bring heightened awareness, as Santa Ana winds can quickly spread a spark into a raging inferno.
As of January 21, 2025, several wildfires are actively burning in San Diego County:
Mission Valley Fire
A brush fire ignited near the Fashion Valley Mall in Mission Valley around 12:30 p.m. No further information is available at this time.
Lilac Fire
Starting near Old Hwy 395 and Lilac Road in Bonsall around 1:20 a.m. Tuesday, the Lilac Fire has scorched 80 acres and is currently 30% contained. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Pala Fire
Another blaze, the Pala Fire, erupted Tuesday near Old Hwy 395 and Canonita Drive in Fallbrook. It initially grew to 17 acres before firefighters managed to control its spread. The cause of this fire is also being investigated.
Poway Fire
A brush fire along Pomerado Road in Poway started around 1:20 p.m. Monday. It rapidly expanded to 3 acres and threatened nearby homes before crews successfully halted its progress.
